Timothy Donald Cook is a business executive and industrial engineer from the United States. Cook is Apple Inc.’s chief executive officer, having previously served as the company’s chief operations officer under co-founder Steve Jobs.
Cook joined Apple in March 1998 as a senior vice president for worldwide operations, later becoming executive vice president for global sales and operations. Prior to Jobs’ death in October of that year, he was appointed CEO on August 24, 2011. He has campaigned for the political reformation of international and domestic surveillance, cyber security, corporate taxes, American manufacturing, and environmental preservation throughout his term as CEO.
Cook became the first CEO of a Fortune 500 firm to openly admit to being homosexual in 2014. Cook is also a trustee of Duke University and a director of Nike, Inc. and the National Football Foundation. In March 2015, he said he planned to donate his entire stock fortune to charity.
